Description:
Large and more compact, with a narrower and weaker moustache, and pale supercilium and nape-band. Adult has pale blue-grey upperparts, buffish underparts with only sparse streaking and barring, rufous on crown and nape, a fine pale supercilium, and a narrow dark moustachial stripe.
Distribution:
Common and widespread resident the the western parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, absent from Baltistan region. Mainly prefers desert and semi-desert, open country with rocky hills and little to no vegetation. Found from lowlands up to 3000m.
Behavior:
Birds taken mainly in flight: when searching for prey, often flies high or perches at prominent site; once it locates prey, it typically pursues it at great speed, frequently culminating in very rapid stoop; prey normally killed in mid-air. Chiefly feeds on birds; occasionally mammals, including bats, rats, rabbits and voles; also insects, reptiles and exceptionally fish.
